- About BC Parks
While the anniversary of BC Parks officially started on March 1, 2011, BC Parks started celebrating the centennial in 2010 and throughout 2011 and even into 2012 to mark the occasion.
While this was created for our centennial year, the events calendar lives on as a BC Parks 100 legacy... Check out the events calendar to find events in your community.
The BC Parks 100 Passport was an exciting initiative that intended to engage families in BC Parks’ centenary by encouraging them to visit parks and visitor centres across the province from May 20, to September 30, 2011.
BC Parks and Mountain Equipment Co-op partnered to host events throughout B.C. to celebrate 100 Years of Adventure. Events were open to the public and included surfing, mountain Biking, paddling, hiking, snowshoeing, climbing and running and were run by community groups and other local organizations.
In partnership with the Geocaching Association of B.C. and sponsored by the Camping and RVing Coalition and Year of Science, BC Parks hosted a centennial themed geocache event.
This initiative offered opportunities for registered not-for-profit societies, charities, First Nations Governments, Bands or Tribal Councils, local governments, schools, School Districts and post secondary institutions to apply for project funding of up to $20,000 to carry out improvements and enhancements to BC Parks throughout 2011.
