Volunteer Park Host

The Volunteer Park Host Program is a hospitality service for park visitors. The role of the Host is to enhance visitor services, to develop a good, cooperative relationship with Park Facility Operators who are in the park on a regular basis and to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for park visitors. By greeting park visitors and providing them with information about things to do in the park and surrounding area, volunteer park hosts offer an important service.

Although volunteers receive no financial remuneration for these positions, the volunteers are given free camping in the park with full hook-ups in exchange for volunteer hours.

Park staff and Jerry the Moose greet visitors on Parks Day at Ellison park.

The job typically begins in the middle to the end of June and services are required through Labour Day (September 1, 2008). It may be possible for a Host to begin earlier, or to stay on longer, if desired.  The Host will be asked to be on duty and available to answer questions for a minimum of 4 hours per day, 5 days a week, preferably in the afternoons and/or evenings and on weekends. Hosts may also help deal with firewood an/ or ice sales. It is also possible for Hosts to work part-time in the park outside of their volunteering commitment, completing an assortment of jobs.

If you are interested in working as a volunteer at Ellison or Fintry Park, please email John Kuly at quality-recreation@shaw.ca or call (250) 545-1560 for more information.
