Current Editions of Study Kits

British Columbia Pesticide Certification

The following is a list of the study kit items for each pesticide applicator and dispenser certification category. The dates indicated for the study kit items are for currently accepted editions to study for the pesticide certification examination. Older editions, with dates not listed below, are not suitable to use and a newer edition should be obtained from the Distribution Centre by phoning 1-800-282-7955 or using the Order Form (PDF/299 KB).

1. Aerial

B.C. uses the training materials and exams offered by other provinces. The following provinces sell the Canadian Aerial Applicator Association-endorsed national training manual and administer an aerial applicator exam acceptable to B.C.:

  Alberta
  Contact: Lakeland College
    1-866-853-8646
  Saskatchewan
Contact: Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology
    1-866-467-4278
  Manitoba
  Contact: Assiniboine Community College
    1-800-862-6307 ext. 6716
  Ontario
  Contact: Ridgetown College
    519-674-1575

To obtain a B.C. Aerial Pesticide Applicator Certificate, a pilot has two options:

Option 1

  • Obtain the training materials offered by one of the provinces listed above and the documents on the websites:
  • Write the B.C. aerial pesticide applicator exam. Exams can be arranged by telephoning 1-866-205-2102. Exams are "open book"; you may refer to your study materials during the exam.

Option 2

  • Pass the aerial pesticide application examination administered by one of the provinces listed above. After obtaining an aerial pesticide applicator certificate from one of these provinces, the pilot must then pass a short "open book"exam on the B.C. Integrated Pest Management Act and Regulation. Study materials for this exam are the documents on the websites:
  • A pilot who has been issued an aerial applicator certificate from one of the provinces listed above and who obtains at least 75% on the B.C. Integrated Pest Management Act and Regulation exam will be issued a B.C. Aerial Pesticide Applicator Certificate valid for five years from the date the out-of-province aerial applicator certificate was issued.

An April 2005 printing is most recent, but the February 2000, December 1992, May 1991 and August 1990 editions can still be used for the certification exams if the reader remembers that the Integrated Pest Management Act has now replaced the Pesticide Control Act mentioned in the earlier editions. Includes the manual plus the following items:
    • Video Tape or DVD (Doing It Right)
    • Storage Sign
    • Laundry Poster
    • Emergency Telephone Stickers
  • Study Notes on the B.C. Crop Production Guides and Practice Exam: February 2008 is the most recent version. The February 2007 version is also acceptable.

Note that all but the most recent edition of the Pesticide Applicator Course for Agricultural Producers refers to the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands Crop Production Guides, but these are no longer provided in the study kit. The supplement above titled Study Notes on the B.C. Crop Production Guides and Practice Certification Exam includes notes to growers explaining that the Production Guides are no longer used.
