Director's Interim Criteria. Air Concentration Criteria

Volatile or semi-volatile chemicals can migrate from contaminated groundwater, soil and sediment into nearby buildings. This has been the subject of focussed efforts by the US Environmental Protection Agency, Health Canada and other agencies. Drawing on this work and advice from the Science Advisory Board of British Columbia, the ministry has now developed draft interim criteria to protect people from unacceptable risks resulting from long-term inhalation of toxic vapours at low concentrations at contaminated sites. When finalized, they would become legally enforceable and would apply to indoor and outdoor air at contaminated and remediated sites.
