Ministry of Environment

Draft Documents - Archives, February 2007

The Land Remediation Section has released the seven draft documents described below for public review and comment by February 16, 2007.

When finalized, these documents will support the Section's increasing focus on high risk sites as directed by the Ministry's Service Plan. They also will provide environmental quality criteria and guidance for environmental professionals to deal with the contamination of air by substances occurring in the soil, water and sediments at contaminated sites. Finally, they will simplify the administrative processing of site profiles and will provide guidance for decision makers under Part 4 of the Environmental Management Act on how to establish the boundaries of a site.

These documents are all in draft form. They are not final, nor do they represent final ministry policy or requirements on any of the subjects they address. They have been released to obtain feedback from stakeholders, and our intent is to use their comments to improve each document.

Before several of the documents are finalized, they will be updated based on the most current scientific information available at the time. Developments are expected and will be incorporated in future updates.

Consultation Presentations

On February 7 and 8, 2007, the Land Remediation Section held consultation meetings in Vancouver to provide an overview of the draft documents released by the ministry and an update regarding the development of the Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals Society. Links to the presentations from those sessions are shown below. Note that there were no PowerPoint slides for the presentation by Mike Macfarlane on "Supplemental Guidance for Risk Assessments" — he used the draft guidance document itself for illustrative purposes.
